Challenging the status quo of Landscape Architecture with a new visual identity for the British Columbia Society of Landscape Architects.
The British Columbia Society of Landscape Architects stands at the confluence of nature and human ingenuity. Inspired by the dialogue between public spaces, structures, and natural environments, the Society's identity was reimagined to encapsulate the duality of form and space. Just as landscape architecture harmonizes diverse components to serve the public good, the new identity symbolizes the unity inherent in this multidisciplinary profession.
The BCSLA is guided by Leadership, Collaboration, Innovation, Environmental Stewardship, Inclusion, Creativity, and Social Responsibility—values reflecting the Society's commitment to enhancing the natural and built environment while fostering inclusivity and sustainability.
The pathway, as the quintessential symbol of the new logo system, is both visual motif and philosophy. It articulates landscape architecture as dialogue with nature rather than dominion over it—a design ethos championing cooperation with the environment. The pathway symbolizes landscape architects as mediators who weave natural and human ecosystems into cohesive, living tapestries rooted in place, context, and ecology.
The rebrand also refreshed Sightlines, BCSLA's flagship publication, enhancing its role as a platform for discourse and underscoring BCSLA's dedication to advancing landscape architecture across British Columbia.
